City of Aliso Viejo Work, Live and Play in a Beautiful Community;
Aliso Viejo is Orange County's newest city and incorporated on July 1, 2001. Aliso Viejo was the first planned community in California. With a master plan developed in 1979, Aliso Viejo provides for a balance between projected jobs and projected residential workforce. It was designed to make it possible to live, work and play in the same community.
The City of Aliso Viejo encompasses 6.9 square miles and is located at the southern end of Orange County. It is approximately 10 miles from John Wayne Airport via the San Joaquin Hills transportation corridor, 50 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, 20 miles south of Santa Ana, the County Seat, and 3 miles inland of the Pacific Ocean.
Aliso Viejo was originally part of the 22,000 acre Moulton Ranch. The Moulton family took title in the 1890's to land originally granted to Juan Avila by the Mexican government in 1842. In 1976, Mission Viejo Company purchased the last 6,600 acres for a new planned community that is now part of the City of Aliso Viejo. The first residential units were offered in March of 1982 and the first residents arrived in November of the same year.
The City of Aliso Viejo is comprised of many neighborhoods administered by over 100 homeowner associations. The Aliso Viejo Community Association manages parks, green belts, landscaped slopes and parkways. Iglesia Community Park, the only city-owned park and community center, compliments the entire park system with numerous recreation opportunities for residents of all ages.
The 3,400 acre Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Park abuts three sides of Aliso Viejo. Scenic canyons, rock formations, oak and sycamore groves, a fresh water marsh and miles of hiking and biking trails with more than 90 species of birds may be seen at the Aliso and Wood Canyons Regional Park. The Aliso Viejo Golf Club, designed by the great father-and-son duo, Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II, provides three nine-hole designs to allow golfers the opportunity to play the course again and again without the feeling of repetition.
The City of Aliso Viejo has a wide variety of housing types and architectural styles, including apartments, town homes, duplexes, condominiums and single-family homes. All homes are located within 1 to 2.5 miles of Aliso Viejo Town Center business center. Homes are priced and designed to meet the needs of a broad range of buyers, from the first-time entry level buyer seeking an affordably priced condominium to the growing family or executive looking to move to a larger home. Aliso Viejo offers residential, business, and retail centers to meet most all citizen's needs.
